MODERN KITCHEN IN A TRADITIONAL HOME
Within the context of this condo renovation, two prominent challenges were addressed: enhancing the kitchen’s functionality without expanding its footprint, and integrating a contemporary kitchen design into a traditional home.

STRATEGIC RENOVATION UNCOVERS UNDERUTILIZED SPACE
By strategically relocating a few doorways, valuable square footage was reclaimed, effectively doubling the kitchen’s storage capacity, establishing an additional work zone, and improving its adjacency to the dining and living room without encroaching upon other rooms.

MODERN AESTHETIC IN A TRADITIONAL CONTEXT
The homeowners love modern design and wanted the kitchen renovation to be in keeping with their aesthetic style. To bridge the divide between a modern kitchen and Colonial Revival home, traditional materials were used, but detailed in a contemporary way.  The fusion of minimal details, clean lines, and contemporary fixtures cultivates a kitchen that distinctly embodies modernism, while selections such as marble and wood maintain a cohesive resonance with the traditional architecture that characterizes the residence.

VISUAL INTEREST AND FUNCTION
The project’s scope extended to the adjacent hallway, where efficiency was amplified and storage augmented.  Utilizing the generous width of this hallway that connects the front and back entries, custom floor-to-ceiling bookcases and cabinets were introduced, delivering both visual interest and a combination of concealed and open storage solutions.

HARMONIZING NEW AND EXISTING DESIGN ELEMENTS
Similar to the kitchen, a restrained color palette and warm wood tones weave a material connection to the preexisting architectural style of the historic home.  Despite this nod to tradition, the design’s detailing remains unequivocally modern.  An engaging juxtaposition of old and new unfolds through the primary bedroom suite’s entrance, concealed within a sliding panel integrated into the bookcase.  When closed, this covert passage preserves the privacy of the personal quarters, while simultaneously revealing open display shelving beyond.
